How AI is used

Ourpot uses AI in one place: Pot Coach, which writes a short recap of a budget period and three ideas for the next one when a member of the pot asks for it. The recap is written by Google's Gemini model, which runs on our servers' side, never on your device, and our access key is never included in the app.

The model receives only the pot's figures for the period: totals by category, what each member paid under their display name, budgets, limits and income. It is instructed to use only the numbers it is given, never to invent numbers, and never to blame one person, because money in a pot is shared. Its answer is checked against a fixed format and length before it is saved.

Informational only

Everything Pot Coach writes is informational. Its ideas are general suggestions for your household budget, not financial, investment or tax advice. If a decision has real consequences, check it with someone who knows your situation.

You stay in charge

Pot Coach suggests; you decide. AI never changes a budget, adds or edits a transaction, approves a request or takes any other action in your pot. Nothing a model writes is applied without you seeing it.

Automated decision-making

Pot Coach recaps do not produce legal effects or similarly significantly affect you, and we do not use them to profile you. Nothing in the app scores you for a purpose outside the app.

Limitations

AI-written recaps can be wrong, incomplete, or confidently mistaken. The model only sees totals, so it misses context that is obvious to you, such as a one-off purchase you planned together. Two recaps of the same period can differ.

We would rather say this plainly than let a confident tone imply a reliability the technology does not have.

Privacy

The pot's figures are sent to the model provider only to write the recap. They are not used to train its systems, and we never send transaction notes, comments, email addresses or account ids. The finished recap is stored in the pot, visible to its members. Our Privacy Policy describes what we store and for how long.

No exaggerated claims

We do not claim that Pot Coach is a financial expert, that it replaces a professional, or that its ideas will save you a particular amount. It is a quick look back at your shared spending, and it is useful in proportion to how honestly it is described.

Changes over time

We change the instructions and the model behind Pot Coach as better ones become available, which means recaps can shift over time. Where a change materially alters what Pot Coach tells you, we will say so in the app rather than let it change silently.
